Students implementing the practice is always like that first drop after you've made it to the top of the highest point on a roller coaster. My stomach was in knots waiting to see # 1 how they would do on this progress assessment and # 2 how they would do honestly using the scale to tell where they feel they are performing.
The students were definitely putting effort into the assignment. They were using the tools, going through the procedures, and actively applying the steps. So, I could tell this would be an accurate gauge of their current ability. I was beginning to feel as though they could experience success today.
I then asked them to use the scale and give themselves their own critique based on their performance. I read through the criteria again and reminded them of differences that set apart the steps on the scale. They were nervous to give themselves a score. I had to remind them that they have been working hard and need to be honest.
Upon analyzing their work and providing feedback I agreed with all but 4 students. 2 had scored themselves too low and 2 too high. I believe after we have more conversation the students will become more familiar with the process and learn that if they have good reason they may even persuade me to give them a certain score.
I have a lot to learn and so do they. And this was just one step towards mastery for us all. Thanks for joining our adventures.

Congratulations! It is great to see theory transform into positive action. Well done!
